5Awesome Socks for many occasions
By Thomas E. Tweedel
With my collection of standard white fitted socks aging and wearing thin it was time to get some more. I like to replace my sock collection en-mass to minimize the inevitable condition of the unmatched sock ( I still get an odd number of socks out of the wash for some reason but at least it matches).

Adding to my choice of sockwear was an upcoming month long slog through China, mostly in the southern tropical regions. I'm in Texas so I'm no stranger to heat, I choose shoes based on how well they ventilate because of it. Getting some socks that handle heat better than the tighty whities would be nice.

I had purchased these smartwool socks and they are SOO much better than the tighty whities.

They didn't loose shape, bunch up, feel totally icky if you got a little water on them, gave good support throughout the day and left your feet feeling ok at the end of the day. On top of that they fight odor much better. Unlike the whities I can wear these socks for several days before they need washing. When I was on the road in China where space, weight and time are always a premium this was great. They dried a lot faster too.

I did a LOT of walking, I was a bit concerned that these being the thinner socks may not hold up or give enough comfort. I was wrong, they did great. My feet felt better than they had any trip before. There was one day when I was carrying around all my gear up a mountain that thicker socks would have been nice, but these did ok.

The amazing thing though was how dry they kept my feet. I was wearing some gore-tex knockoff leather shoes. The combination of this plus the heat, humidity and constant walking is usually a recipe for soaked uncomfortable feet. To my surprise this was not the case. The socks were thin enough and allowed enough circulation that my feet were fine all day long. I have another pair of smartwool socks that are bit thicker and they have a bit more moisture buildup, even in non-goretex shoes, so the thickness seems to be the key.

I highly recommend these socks for use in warmer climates. I got 5 pair and I'll be going back to get some more so I have enough to cover the entire laundry cycle.

5I might be a little premature, but these are great socks so far
By Greg
I have been wearing Merino wools socks in the winter for several years now and love them. They are thick, warm and dry. I ride a motorcycle for fun, especially on long trips and found that many of my fellow riders wear wool even in the summer. So I did some research and apparently Merino wool is some kind of miracle fabric. Ok, maybe that is a little much, but it is suppose to keep you warm in the winter, cool in the summer and dry all of the time.

I can say that my feet never get cold in the winter with them and now that I have been wearing these socks with my Goretex Merrell tennis shoes in 95+ degree, humid weather my feet don't get hot either. I can take my shoes off at the end of the day and my feet are dry. I also don't seem to get the hot spots on the bottom of my feet that indicate a blister could form because they are staying drier.

These socks are comfortable the minute you put them on. They have just enough padding where its needed and elastic to keep the sock up. I may be premature rating them now as I can't speak for durability yet, but they are comfortable and do live up to the promise of Merino wool.

I have worn the socks on multiple occasions now and my initial thoughts on them still stand. I am very pleased with these socks and plan to get more merino wool socks to cover all situations.
